[ There's a long pause before he gets a reply. ]

[ There's another pause and then the camera is on! A very concerned Macavity appears, chirping urgently and taking the Gear in his mouth to show Noctis the problem.

The problem is that Ash is half crushed underneath a Lapras. The hotel bed he was on has smashed and it's clear Ash is only just getting oxygen back into his lungs, gasping deeply. The Lapras looks utterly confused and frightened and is still trying to get off him, struggling with it's flippers on land ]

Are you okay???

[His answer comes in the form of a video and Noctis is torn between laughing and being very worried about his friend.]

Holy crap are you--hey, big guy, you need to get off him okay? Can you slide to one side a bit??

[Wait.]

Danny?? You there??

[ She's trying! Between Ash and her, they finally managed to separate. Ash checked his legs still while the Lapras was still frightened, looking around the hotel room and slapping her flippers on the ground. Macavity smacked a pokeball off Ash's belt and lo, there's Danny. Which just adding another confused, concerned party member to the room. ]

Holy shit- Someone...threw it's...it's ball in here-! [ Ash wheezed. Macavity ran up and jumped over the splinters of the bed to his side, chirping in worry and placing the Gear in his lap. Danny knelt beside him, checking on Ash and nodding to Noctis. ] I thought. I thought it was one of the fucking Magikarp! As a prank!

[Noctis lets out a breath of relief when Ash manages to get out from under the Lapras, Carbuncle--who had been drawn to the noise of the commotion--perched on his shoulder while his Sneasel, Ana, was poking her head up from underneath Noct's arm.]

Apparently they decided to play a bigger sort of prank on you. You going to be alright? Got any sort of potion you can use on yourself?

I'm alright. Nothing's broken, just...Jesus Christ. [ He shifts and stands from his ruined bed, grimacing. That's gonna cost. But he notices the Lapras, who makes a very distressed noise. 8C ] Oh no, no no it's okay-

[ As he approached it the Lapras...cowered. It lowered it's head fearfully and Ash covered his mouth in shock. ] ...Oh my god- Noctis, look at this. It's okay baby, I ain't gonna hurt you- [ He signals for Danny to come over with the gear and the Lucario gasped as he saw (and showed to the camera) the Lapras' back. The shell that covered it had a very deep, jagged crack, running from it's rear to the middle right, as if something had tried to break it open like a nut. Several of the protrusions had been cut short or had notches in them, as if someone had tried to cut them but gave up. ]

What--

[Noct's words are cut short as he sees what Ash and Danny are seeing. His eyes widen in surprise but slowly narrow, his stomach twisting in anger and disgust.]

Who the hell...that's a Lapras, I think. I'm pretty sure. Someone I talked to awhile back told me they were hunted to the brink of extinction.

[Looks like someone was trying to keep up the trade.

On his shoulder, Carbuncle makes a distressed sound, looking extremely worried about this large friend that is in bad shape. Even Ana, who doesn't normally care much about other Pokemon, looks upset, squirming into Noctis lap more so she can get a better look.]

Yeah...shit, I'd talked to a guy who was breeding them before. Hey, it's okay. Shhh, you're safe here, okay? [ He tried to sweet-talk the poor Pokemon, petting the side of her long neck. She watched him, trembling when he touched her. Danny spoke to her as Macavity pressed against her, trying to comfort her. Something she said made Danny snarl and he turned to Ash, barking to him. He pointed at two of his pokeballs. ]

Fionn and Ceannfort? What do they have to do with...

[Wait. Fionn. That was the name of--]

Team Rocket.

[The words are practically spat out as things start to click into place. Sort of. (They still had no idea who tossed that Pokeball into Ash's room, after all.]

I bet Team Rocket had her--I'd bet anything they're the ones--they---those assholes!

Oh...Oh fuck. Yeah, Ceannfort- he's one of the Electrodes they were using at fucking Prom. I spoke to the guy who rescued them and- it's okay, it's okay!

[ The Lapras had begun to shake at their mention, looking around wildly and shaking her head left and right in the beginning of a panic. Ash put his hands on her neck and tried to make her look at him. His Pokemon similarly helped, with Macavity fluffing up and pressing against her belly and Danny giving off a calming aura. ] It's okay, they're not here. You're safe- [ Slowly, she stopped shaking so much. ]

My god just. I looked up on Lapras' before and they're completely docile, they ferry people around just because, not because they trained to or anything- [ This is genuinely upsetting and Ash can't help tearing up a bit. He's angry as all hell but there's no-one to rage at; just the clearly traumatised Lapras who is cowering and all kinds of fucked up. ]

You're with me now, alright? They ain't getting you again. I promise.

You should take her to a Pokecenter, Ash. Have them check her out and make sure there's nothing else going on that we can't see.

[The nurses at the Pokecenters were always so nice and cheerful; if anyone could help it'd be them.

Noctis is doing his best to contain his anger, chewing hard on the inside of his check as Ana glances up at him before lifting a clawed paw to tap his chin. It startles the prince out of his thoughts and he glances down at her, absently wrapping his arms around her.]

If there's anything I can do, let me know okay? Prompto and I are on the road again but I can warp back from the next city if you need me to.

Yeah. Yeah, that's a good idea- [ He'd been too wrapped up in shock and then anger and sadness to think of that. Danny gave a firm nod to Noctis. He could see the prince's anger and he felt it too. They will take care of her. Macavity jumped up and chirped in agreement. They will protect their big frightened friend! ]

I'll get her checked. We should be alright. You two take care, yeah? I'll let you know what the nurses say.

Alright. I'll talk to you later then.

[Because he wants to make sure that his friend and his Pokemon are going to be alright.

On his shoulder, Carbuncle let's out a chirp while Ana nods from her place in Noct's lap. Yes, please. They want to make sure the big hurt friend is okay.]
